Cavendon Hall by Barbara Taylor Bradford . Review

The setting for the story is the very grand Cavendon Hall in Yorkshire. The elegant residents of this beautiful house are the Ingham family above stairs and the Swanns below stairs who serve and look after them. One of the first things we learn early on  is how loyal the Swanns are to their employers and they have great respect for them and it is mutual. It was very enjoyable reading about the grand lifestyle in the house , the fashion , the social seasons and the running of a house that big. I quickly became invested in these characters ,some more likeable then others and I was sad having to finish the book, I really enjoyed it because you had the glamour of the Ingham family and the every day life of the servants and we got to see both equally. There is plenty of drama going on behind the scenes which makes this an irrissitable read, but behind all the glamour is a darker side looming and with the war threatening it is a tense time in England. This is a must read for all fans of Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs.
