Fortunately The Milk by Neil Gaiman. Review.

When a father is left in charge of his children because his wife has to go away for work there is going to be an adventure or twenty. The book is filled with wonderful pictures of all the characters and I thought the illustrations of Neil as the father was really fun. This would suit young boys or girls who enjoy tales of adventures and magical creatures and places. Think Doctor Who for children.
Illustrations by Chris Riddell.
Bloomsbury publishers.

I Had A Black Dog by Matthew Johnstone. Review

This is an informative book about depression and the way it effects the life of someone who has it. Told in a straightforward manner without a lot of medical jargon . Simple and effective in explaining to someone what depression is really like. There is pictures throughout the book which help aid each explanation . I recommend this for anyone who has depression or has had it in the past or if you want to understand this illness better .

The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman by Denis Theriault.Review

This is the story of a 27 year old postman called Bilodo. Bilodo is a lonely man ,lives in Montreal, likes routines , works hard , and begins to enjoy his private life more and more after commiting a great crime through his work. I found Bilodo to be a very interesting character, his fantasy life is very important to him and he is so practical in his work life you are amazed that when he finishes work you get to see the real man, the secrets ,the lies, his hopes and dreams. If you ever had a moment where you wondered what if.... Then this philosophical story is for you.

I received this book from Lovereading.co.uk for review.
This book is due to be published September 2014 and will be available from Lovereading.co.uk and all good bookstores then.

Still Foolin' Em by Billy Crystal. Review.

I have always been a fan of Billy Crystal in movies so when I came upon his autobiography I jumped at the chance to listen to the great man read it through audible.co.uk. I knew when I listened to the sample of this book that it was going to be a great listen ,  it was even better then I thought it was going to be! Billy is such a likeable person and had an awesome life...he met everyone famous worth knowing and had a life long love of baseball . Movies, theatre and presenting were just a few of the huge accomplishments he achieved in his life. He talks with as much passion about his family as he does his celebrity life and you get the feeling he would be a cool guy to call a friend. Autobiographies are a great way to get to know famous people we see on TV and at the movies, this book made me think even more highly of this sweet and funny man. I recommend this to all fans of Billy Crystal .

Man At The Helm by Nina Stibbe. Review.

Before I even start the review ..Go out and buy this book immediately !
The story begins when a young wife overhears a phone conversation that she should not have heard between her husband and I assumed his lover. This will alter her entire life.
The story is told by her daughter Lizzie ,  she is a comical little girl of 9 and is the middle child. She has an older sister and a younger brother called little Jack. All their lives are altered when they leave their dad and move with their mother to a little English Village . Their mother is really struggling being alone , she really needs a man in her life so her children take it upon themselves to find her a man which causes many comical moments throughout the book. The book is not all funny as there is more serious and tender parts that really make you think and feel sorry for the characters . My favourite character is Lizzie, she is an optimist and has great spirit and motivation. If you enjoy a book with great female lead characters that will also leave you feeling happy then this is the book for you.

I received this book from the lovely people over at Lovereading.co.uk.
This book is going to be published in August 2014 and you will be able to buy it from Lovereading.co.uk and all other good bookstores then.

Society's Child My Autobiography by Janis Ian .Review

17840429

The first time I came upon this author was when a friend introduced me to the song Tea and Sympathy , I really loved her beautiful voice and the lyrics of her songs. I was thrilled when I then came across this book on audible.co.uk and it was narrated by Janis. Janis has a wonderful reading voice and between that and the incredible life she led it makes for the perfect escapist read. Janis is not someone who shys away from telling us the tougher parts of her life, she shares all with us and I liked her even more because of it. We got to see the glamour and the hiccups in her life and everything she met along the way ,the friends, the lovers ,the lyrics. I loved finding out where some of the lyrics came from, the things she was going through when she wrote others and the work involved in writing. Sometimes shocking but always a remarkable book that anyone would enjoy . Go read this immediately !

If You Were Me by Sheila O'Flanagan. Review.

I am a big fan of Sheila's books so I when I received this for review from Lovereading.co.uk I was thrilled!
In this story we meet Carlotta and Chris. They are a successful couple, both with great jobs but Carlotta's job, which involves a lot of travel, is proving to be a problem when she misses an important family event. Her future in-laws are not going to find it easy to let her forget  about this for a long time. This one day would alter her  feelings and the  road in life she had been heading towards when she meets a blast from the past.
I loved reading about Carlotta, she is human , she makes mistakes. but she is really trying  to form some kind of bond with her future family which is what reading about her in-laws and their relationship so much fun to read about. Chris was one of those characters you love to hate and wish he would grow a backbone.
If you have ever wondered about the future... reminisced about relationships in the past... and what if's ...then this is the story for you.

This is book is published this month and is now available from Lovereading.co.uk and all other good book stores. Please find  link below to this book.
