Juniper Lemon's Happiness Index by Julie Israel. Review

This is a touching story of one girl's journey in the months after the sudden death of her older sister. Juniper is really struggling with excepting the death of her sister and coping with life without her there , she has lots of questions that are unanswered so when she finds a mysterious letter she hopes it will answer some of her questions , if she can only figure out who the letter was meant for .
Thought provoking and touching , this is a must read for any young person going through any kind of grief .

The Ghost Of Helen Addison by Charles E. McGarry . Review

This is the first book in this new murder mystery series featuring Psychic private detective Leo Moran . Leo is an old fashioned type of gentleman , slightly suffering from hypochondria and more then a little partial to  a nip of whiskey . I really enjoyed this story set in Scotland during winter centred around the brutal murder or a newly qualified nurse .
The story is charming , Leo is very likeable even though he can have quite a sharp tongue , but he is just the man you would want on the case when there is a murder especially as he has such unique gifts . The plot kept me intrigued the entire duration of reading it which meant I read it all in one sitting because it was awesome. The settings of the story , the hotel , train , quaint town etc all added to this stories charm . I would recommend this to any mystery fan , especially cosy mystery fans !

The Naming Of The Dead by Ian Rankin . Review

This is book 16 in the Rebus series and it just keeps getting better and better . This book primarily centres around the G8 summit in Edinburgh and a serial killer on the loose , both making the police a little twitchy. Rebus seems to be loosening up a lot since the series started , he has more of a sense of humour and with a rapier wit at times . He is casually excellent at his job .
We see a lot more of Siobhan in this book then we ever did before and I really liked that . She is a very likeable character and I would love to see her more centrally in future plots .
I recommend this to all Rebus fans .

Black And Blue by Ian Rankin . Review

This was so good! Rebus has his hands full in this book with a copycat serial killer on the loose and the original Killer walking about paying close attention to this younger man . Crimes are stacking up and each one is more grizzly then the last while set amongst the city of Edinburgh . Rebus is in top form in this , the   eighth book in the series , there is a lot going on with the plot but it does not make it confusing , instead keeps you glued to the book until the very end . I love when a book does that! Rebus is his usual self , snarky and self confident and a bit of a loveable rogue. This is a must read for all fans of the series.

Time For A Catch Up :0)

Well friends , it has been an awfully long time since I popped on here to chat to you all so I thought today I would sit down and catch you up with what I have been up to . We have been SO lucky with the weather recently , honestly ..... if you squinted a bit you would think you were in some foreign country the way it has been so warm with  blue skies for days .

With the fab weather comes fab growth and even the weeds are enjoying every bit of it .... the buggers....  Weeding is my least favourite part of gardening , planting and planning are my favourite as well as pottering in the green house . Honestly there is little better then putting on an audiobook and getting my hands dirty planting some seeds that I will later be able to eat or to put in a flower pot .

I have been reading a good few review books recently and my personal reading has been left to the side .... I have a nice stack of books that I will be digging into very soon and I am honestly so excited! I picked books from lots of genres and the settings are very different for the most part . Half the fun of them now is knowing that they are there waiting for me . Bliss.

Sneezing season is back with vengeance again this year , each year I hope it will not come back but .... well , pass the tissues .
It does bring headaches watery eyes and sinus problems but sure it is all worth it for the sunnier warm days where you don't need a thermal vest and long johns to brave outside your door .

It hit over 50 degrees in my greenhouse on one of the hotter days , standing there it felt like I was melting into the floor , needless to say I made a hasty exit after opening windows . I am growing all the usual plants I grow each year , lettuce- multiple types, cauliflower , cabbage , broccoli ( two types) , Pak Choi , red and white Scallions , leeks , garlic , peppers , carrots( two kinds) cucumbers , courgettes ( two kinds ) onions , beetroot, sage, parsley , basil, garlic chives , regular chives and countless others. I do enjoy seeing them grow and each year no matter what it still excites me waiting for the first glimpse of green to pop out from under the soil. So satisfying!
I ordered lots of vegetable books from the library and tonight I intend to browse them and see if I can get some helpful tips. Gardening is a constant learning process but very rewarding and great fun when you meet other like minded people.

I have lots of reviews and a haul going up here on the blog this weekend and all of next week so expect a good few posts over the next week as I try and catch up on a backlog of posts that I have waiting for me . Until next time friends , have. a great Saturday :0)

Best Laid Plans by Kathy Lette . Review

This is the hilarious account of a single Mother's day to day struggles with rearing her 21 year old son  . Her son Merlin  is autistic and has a terrific sense of humour and their conversations are the funniest and pure comedy gold ! The book mixes real tenderness with laugh out loud , tears streaming down your face moments, making this a very enjoyable read as well as showing us what life is like for family members living with autism. This is a feel good story complete with plenty of bad guys and a mother who deserves her very own superwoman cape . Awesome ! I recommend this to anyone in need of a good chuckle.

Six Tudor Queens :Anne Boleyn : A King's Obsession. Review by Alison Weir

If you love reading about King Henry and his notorious love life then this awesome fictional retelling of King Henry and Anne Boleyn will make a very enjoyable read . The story is fascinating and the woman herself even more so . I felt sorry for Queen Katherine as Anne had a plan and was going to stop at nothing to get what she wanted , to be married to the King . If you love history then this makes a terrific read , the behind the scenes details of what went on in King Henry's court and the insatiable desires of a powerful man make this impossible to put down .

Song Of The Current by Sarah Tolcser. Review

Set in a magical world,  the  main character of the story is a girl called Caro , most of her life is lived on the water like the generations of her family before her . Caro is a really strong female character with plenty of gumption and a will to succeed in an unusual place for a female, on the river,  transporting merchandise and lots more  . While on the river there is all manner of person , some good , some a little shady , these characters are really interesting and Caro slowly learns that not everything or everyone is as they seem and it's about to set her on a completely new path.

The Friend by Dorothy Koomson . Review

The book starts after a serious accident has happened . The book is separated into sections each one dedicated to each individual woman involved and we see the story unfold through each of the ladies eyes . The focus of the story is about one woman in the group that was essentially the leader of their group , the ultimate "Mean Girl" !
We don't find out for a long time what exactly has happened or why, but after seeing the backstory of these women's lives and their relationship with this one woman , it gives a darkness to the plot as each woman has her own issues and secrets that they don't want known or used against them . I am a big fan of this author and this book does not disappoint . Mystery , intrigue and well written characters made this impossible to put down so I had to ignore all housework until I finished it . It was terrific!

Greatest Hits by Laura Barnett . Review

The main character of the story is Cass Wheeler , a very famous singer from the 70's  that vanished from the music industry for ten years only to reappear with an album consisting of 16 songs , each one about a part of her life that means a lot to her . These songs help show us more about the woman behind the songs , her life and loves and all the ups and downs she faced that explain her absence from the industry she had loved so much . A touching and heartbreaking story of one woman's journey through life .

Crazy House by James Patterson & Gabrielle Charbonnet . Review

Set in a dystopian world where families live in cells , a four mile area that each family works . Cassie and her twin Becca live there without their parents and they farm . The government that rules over everyone is a frightening one where people can be taken away to be "adjusted" , and there are special places for those who do not follow orders , that is where these twin sisters find themselves . The story is engrossing , at first Cassie and Becca seem to have very different personalities  but when they are put in a horrible situation they both really shine and stand up for what they believe no matter what! Often brutal , the story keeps you on your toes as you don't know what horror these girls are going to have to face next and  just when you think it can't get worse it does! The story has a few surprises that I did not see coming , especially the ending , it left me gobsmacked . If you enjoyed The Hunger Games then check this out!

Fierce Kingdom by Gin Philips . Review

The story is set in a zoo over a period of one day where a mother called Joan and her young son are enjoying seeing all the animals and walking around the exhibits , suddenly gunfire is heard and the reason behind it becomes apparent setting in motion a high octane thrilling plot .
I really liked Joan , she has a lot of guts and her  protective instincts as a mother are strong . It was fascinating seeing how Joan was going to cope with what was happening when there was a very real threat to their safety . It was one of those books that gives you goosebumps while reading it and a sense of uneasiness, I found myself holding my breathe during parts , almost like I was there with them  . The plot is scary because it feels like it really could happen and the bad guys were not easily understandable making them even more scary , their motives were sketchy. I loved this! Anyone who wants a book to keep you on the edge of your seat needs to read this . Awesome!
