Murder In Her Stocking by G.A McKevett. Review

This is book 1 in the Granny Reid Mystery Series featuring Stella Reid and it is set in McGill , Georgia . The first thing you should probably know is that Stella is probably one of the most awesome grandmother figures of all time and her daughter in law Shirley is the most deplorable. Right at the beginning of the story we get a flashback to the 1980’s when all of Stella’s 7 grandchildren were young and there is a murder in the town one night . The story is heart warming but there is more then one character you wish you could hit with a frying pan . I never put this down when I started it , I just loved Stella and that big heart of hers , the moments with her grandkids was incredibly touching and I have no doubt this story will stay with me for a very long time .

The main character of the story is Marlee Jacob , the owner of “The Berry Basket “ and the story is set in the lakeshore town of Oriole Point , Michigan . The town is in the middle of its annual summer “Blueberry Blow Out “event that makes great use of the towns specialty - Blueberry growing.

When a town resident is found dead soon after competing in one of the events at The Blueberry Blowout , it becomes up to Marlee to find out what on earths going on and what could have possibly happened . I loved this dreamy setting and  all the mouthwatering foods mentioned and likable characters. .Marlee is a great main character , likable and unable to resist a good mystery . Loved her!

Seances Are For Suckers by Tamara Berry . Review

Eleanor Wilde is the main character of the story , she is a fake medium with the good luck of actually being very perceptive . Eleanor is a triplet and is very close to her siblings William and Winnie  , one of which is in a home , her family keep her rooted and her relationship with Winnie is especially touching .

When asked by a very unlikely believer to come to a Castle in England to work her magic and get rid of a ghost , Eleanor jumps at the chance and gets more then she bargained for across the pond . I loved Eleanor , she is a smart cookie and not afraid to take a few risks when she is on the tail of a mystery . The setting was brilliant , a big old castle in England where more then a few things go bump in the night , I loved every minute! I recommend this to all mystery fans .

Murder By The Book by Lauren Elliott . Review

The main character of this story is Addison Greyborne , Addie is the owner of “ Beyond The Page “ , a used and rare book and curio ship . Having not had the business long it becomes very disheartening when a crime spree seems to be happening in the town she loves  and the crimes seem to be multiplying by the day and are becoming more widespread , effecting more then just her business . This is was an incredibly enjoyable book with a gorgeous setting , Beyond The Page is just the type of ship I would adore if it was near where I lived so setting a mystery around that was fabulous . I can’t wait for more books in the series. .

Yeast Of Eden by Sarah Fox . Review

This is the mouthwatering 4th book In the series set in small town Wildwood Cove .

The main character of the story is Marley , she is the owner of “ The Flip Side” pancake house that sells all sorts of delicious pancakes ... seriously , it made my mouth water reading about them.

When deplorable Wally Fowler , a former resident comes back to town and opens a rival pancake house beside Marley’s restaurant known as “Wally’s Waffle Kingdom “ , it quickly becomes apparent that Marley has some competition and it could prove to be deadly

I loved this story , from the competitive natures of the residents  to the darker side of small town and close knit residents lives , the story kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out who could possibly want to cause harm , I also could not sleep a wink until I got all the answers ! Loved it !

Yule Log Murder by Leslie Meier . Review

The book is set in Tinkers Cove , Maine and the main character of the story is Lucy Stone . Lucy works on the Pennysaver Newspaper in town and work is going to be a lot busier now that it looks like a film is being shot in this small town . Not everyone is pleased that director Ross Rocket is making a film here and it’s not long before trouble arises.  This story had lots of twists and turns and I loved that ! When there is trouble in town Lucy is never too far away and she is just the person you want to be asking all the right questions . I love this new addition to this series and especially the wonderful recipes included . Now hopefully it won’t be long until we get to come back to this series again. I can’t wait !

Deadly News by Jody Hanford review .

This is first in a new series set in Britton Bay. Molly Owens is the main character and editor of “The Bulletin “ newspaper .

Mollly has joined the paper recently with the intention of shaking it up and bringing it into the modern world much to the dislike of old curmudgeon Vernon , a member of staff with a chip on his shoulder and a penchant for grumbling.

When a member of staff shows up dead soon after being sent out on a story,  a lot more work is required to not only get their work done but find a killer too. The setting was fabulous , this is the type of town I would move to in a heartbeat , quaint , with colorful residents and  their interesting backgrounds and lots of gorgeous businesses and scenic with it .

I read this in one go and loved every minute of it , I can’t wait to read more books in the series !

The Lady In The Cellar by Sinclair McKay. Review .

The story is set in 1879 at the address of no 4 ,Euston Square , Bloomsbury , London . The home is owned by Severin and Mary Bastendorff , a German family who renting part of their home out . They have one maid , a Hannah Dobbs . What starts of as a story about the residents of a house soon takes a darker turn when a body is found in the coal cellar.

I found this story completely intriguing , the time the story is set in and the secrets and lies of the residents makes it very hard to guess what’s going to happen next . I read this entirely in one sitting as I was eager to know who the deceased person was and why on earth they were found dead there . The story has plenty of twists and turns and makes for an eerie read made even more interesting is the the new CID police procedures for crime scenes and deaths at that time . Gripping and a must read for all fans of this time in history . Very atmospheric!

Purls And Poison by Anne Canadeo . Review.

This is book 10 in the “ Black Sheep Knitting Mystery”  Series . I love this series, I have read five of the books up to this point and I was very excited that I got to review this one.  The story features a group of friends who meet weekly at Maggie’s Yarn shop to eat , talk and knit while putting the world to right . In book 10 we see Suzanne ( a real estate broker ) having trouble at work with one of her colleagues who is trying to steal her clients . It all reaches a pivotal point and then all hell brakes loose .

I have to say I love this series and my favorite thing about it is the talk about all the yarn and knitting ( let’s be real ) and the friendship between this close knit ( see what I did there ) group of friends.  This little group are amazing strong women , smart , and full of gumption ... who would not want to be friends with these ladies . Suzanne needs her friends most in this latest mystery and it’s incredible enjoyable following them along for the ride . I loved every single page .

I received this book from Netgalley and Kensington books in exchange for a review .

Thread Herrings by Lea Wait . Review

This is book 7 in “A Mainely Needlepoint Mystery” series and I loved it .
Set in Maine , the story centers around main character Angie , a gutsy female who loves a mystery .
When Angie accompanies her friend Sarah , an antiques shop owner , to a large auction she gets more then she bargained for when she decides to buy a beautiful embroidered coat of arms that is more then a little rough around the edges .
Once she gets it home she finds out it has an intriguing history that she needs her friends help in solving , unfortunately that help comes with deadly consequences.
If you love a story with a fantastic back story , a creepy stalker and plenty of danger lurking around every few pages then this is the book for you. This kept me on my toes , I like how Lea Kept the tension building and how I could not guess who was the “baddie” . I will definitely be reading more from this series .
Another extra goodie in this book was the delightful little snippets of people’s stories of needlework. I think it really added to the story and how special handcrafts can be .

I kindly received this book from Netgalley For review. This book is being published by Kensington Publishing on Oct 30th and will be available where all good books are sold .
