The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. Review

The story is set in the town of Sparrow , it’s right by the water and has a dark and dangerous history . A long time ago three sisters who were deemed to be witches were killed and ever since then each summer three males will die . In present day beneath the surface of the water all  looks calm but it’s not long until the deaths start again . Three dead girls taking over the bodies of others to do their bidding .
This was a really great plot , I read the entire book in one sitting and loved the history of the story and the curse . This would be an enjoyable read for any who loved Hocus Pocus or Pracical Magic or stories of the Salem Witch trials .

We Own The Sky by Luke Allnutt. Review

This is the story about a family , Rob , Anna , and their son Jack . One day their entire life changes when they receive heartbreaking news that will push them to their limits in every way . This was an emotional roller coaster of a read , the characters are likeable , Rob more so then Anna but Jack is really at the heart of it all . I read this in one sitting as I could not guess how it was going to end and I needed to know what was going to happen to these characters I had grown to love . Read this with a big box of tissues ! Highly recommend .

Lost on Mars by Paul Magrs. Review

This is a science fiction story set well into the future where  humans are now living on mars . Lora is the main character and she lives with her family in a small community . Rumors begin of people disappearing near by and when members of Lora ‘s own family vanish it becomes a lot more frightening . A fun and fascinating story with great world building , if not a little terrifying . A great read for anyone who enjoys YA science fiction .

Tender by Eve Ainsworth. Review

This is the story about two teenagers , Daisy and Marty. Both teenagers are struggling with their family life and managing the day to day running of their personal life because of it . The story covers many topics like mental illness , incurable illness , family relationships ( esp when under severe stress) . I read this book in one go as I really cared for these two main characters , both are good people with big generous hearts who are going through such an awful time but they are not letting it change them as people , they are still awesome and lovely . I especially loved the parts of the plot they were in together , they are so sweet together even though everything around them is so tough . Loved this book a lot ! Definitely pick this one up !

The Story Of Our Lives by Helen Warner. Review

This is the soul warming story of four friends , Amy , Melissa, Sophie , and Emily told over 20 years of their friendship and told from their various perspectives. I loved these characters , each one is very different but somehow combined they make an incredibly strong and fiercely supportive group of women that anyone would want to have as friends . The story takes us on a journey through the ups and downs of these women’s lives , marriage , babies, relationships and work and gives a few twists and turns along the way . I  recommend this to all who enjoy stories about female bonds and lifelong friendships even through adversity.

Last Letter From Istanbul by Lucy Foley . Review

The story is set in 1921 and is told from different people’s perspectives , but it centers around one woman called Nur . Nur’s homehouse has now been turned into a hospital for wounded soldiers belonging to the enemy much to her horror  .
Nur is a teacher and she has taken under her wing a curious young boy that needs looking after . When he gets seriously ill she has to turn to the last person she ever imagined she would ask for help ... The Enemy . The story is bittersweet , the heartbreak and confusion of emotions during wartime is really well described and the turmoil that war brings to families is enough to bring a tear to your eye . I really enjoyed this story and I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in wartime stories .

Scythe by Neal Shusterman . Review

This story is set in the not so distant future and is centered around two main characters a girl called Citra and a boy named Rowan. In the future,  government is no longer needed , something far greater monitors everything and runs things smoother then the old ways with politics etc . As everybody is living longer it became necessary to have Scythes, people picked to kill others .  . Citra and Rowan get picked to become apprentices to these Scythes and then the plot really gets juicy ! This was an amazing book with terrific world building that was very believable , this author has a terrific way of making you feel for these characters and while you are reading this , present day just fades away as you daydream about could any of this happen . So Good !!! I recommend to all , especially if you are a dystopian fan .

While You Sleep by Stephanie Merritt. Review

This is a deeply unsettling story about a woman called Zoe . Zoe is an artist who has decided to come to the island to get away from everything , she is renting the McBride house and is intending to do some painting while she is there , but the lonely McBride house has deep rooted horrors still lingering there .
I love a story set on an island , add in a woman on her own ,  a big creepy old house far away from any neighbors with no easy way to get help and this has all the ingredients for the perfect ghost story . This was so good!
Zoe is a great character , not easily spooked and with far more gumption then most . I liked the information we get on her past and how it makes you question present day events . This story keeps you guessing to the last pages .
I recommend this to anyone who liked The Woman In Black .

Flying Tips For Flightless Birds by Kelly McCaughrain. Review

This is the story about flying- trapeze siblings Finch and Birdie Franconi . They belong to a well known and much respected circus family where they also train people in their circus school . When tragedy occurs and one member is hurt it is up to the rest of them to save the school . This was a delightful story of a very unusual family that is full of love and close bonds and a truly unconventional upbringing . It was lovely seeing behind the scenes of what was going on and all their hopes and dreams . A fun filled story with a feel good ending .

Life Of Crime by Kimberley Chambers . Review

This is the epic story of one criminal family from when the main characters Melissa and Jason first meet . From the very beginning it is an engrossing story with a bad boy at the center of it . Jason is one of those characters you will love to hate , he is completely out for himself but he loves his family dearly and is very loyal to them . When he meets Melissa it’s not exactly love at first sight , but it is just what he needs . Here starts their journey. This story was SO good , I read it in one go and days later it’s still running through my mind and it is  the first book I would think to recommend if asked . These characters we follow through teenage years to middle age and through every conceivable crime imaginable , there was not just one straight plot going on but many intertwined which just increased how brilliant the plot was. I recommend this to everyone without any hesitation .

Three Things About Elsie by Joanna Cannon . Review

This is the story about Florence , an elderly lady who has just taken a fall in a retirement home and is waiting to be rescued . While on the floor she has a lot of time to think over her past , and the possible ramifications that actions from back then might have on her now . This story is filled with mystery and a good bit of suspense too , the story goes back and forth in time as Florence tries to figure out what could have happened back then and how it is possible it’s coming back to haunt her . For a while I was not sure if Florence was losing her memory, its a real possibility , later things became much clearer .
I really enjoyed seeing what their day to day life was like as a resident in the retirement home , and the bonds with the other residents that they have there too as well as their hopes , and fears of growing older and perhaps ill. There was many times I had a lump in my throat reading this beautiful story , it’s a must read !

Big Bones by Laura Dockrill. Review

The main character of the story is a teenager called Bluebelle , and let me tell you , she is fabulous . I want her as my friend !

She has many terrific attributes as well as a loving family and friends,  but the bain of her life at the moment is that she is getting pushed to lose weight . Bluebelle is one of those fabulous humans that loves herself , flaws and all and is genuinely happy with herself , how amazing and wonderful is that ! When asked by a nurse to keep a diary of what she eats it becomes so much more then that and it is glorious to read .

I loved this character so much , she is a total breath of fresh air , an inspiration and we could all do with taking a lesson from her . I recommend this for every single person .
