River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh. Review

This is the second book in the Ibis Trilogy . In this book we see some but not all of the characters from the first book returning and the trade of Opium and it's export beginning to cause a stir .
The book is told through several characters eyes and you get a good feel for the times these characters were in in the 1800's , the use of Opium was common and it's value was immense making it iristible for exporting where a very large profit was to be made . Before the opium wars opium was a great business but that was all to change when it was decided that there would be no more exporting this valuable commodity out of the country . As this was a business and many foreigners depended on it as their livelihood this was to become a very large problem ! I recommend this to anyone interested in history and this specific part of the world , richly described and intoxicatingly good!

I received this book for review from the lovely people over at Lovereading.co.uk.
This book has already been published and you can find a link to this book below.
