Saint Mazie by Jami Attenberg . Review

I loved this book ! The story is told in diary form from Mazie's perspective and in the future from those who were related to those she knew or who knew of her from what they were told. The story begins when Rosie and Louis bring Rosie's other sisters Mazie and Jeanie to live with them in New York. Mazie settles well here but Jeanie has a wild spirit . The streets of new become home for Mazie and she likes to take care of those that she comes into contact with. She sees all sorts of people from behind the cage where she hands out tickets for the theater where she works , all manner of good and bad people cross her path some leave more lasting memories then others. Her Captain and sister Tee being two of them. This story often left me with a lump in my throat , Rosie was a character that moved me a lot , she saw a lot of pain and it left scars that no scalpel could leave, they went much deeper then that and Mazie tried to help her as much as she could while drinking more then she should and sometimes making poor decisions. This is a book that will make you forget all that is happening around you. Pure escapism! What a woman!
