Secrets Of The Mist by Kate Ryder. Review / Blog Tour

This is an intriguing timeslip story set in Dorset in England and centers around main character Maddie , Maddie is an Irish girl working in England , and while on location with her job she falls in love with The Olde Smithy Cottage and decides to buy it , here is where the story really gets going !

The story has it all , history , mystery , intrigue and love , with a brave and smart heroine in the center of it . The back story of this tale is really good , we get glimpses of the past throughout the book , almost in a dream like way but not quite , each bit a little unnerving but completely engrossing . As the story progresses there is a growing sense of unease in the cottage and that builds even more as the story went on , flashes of the past  become more frequent and mix with present day which I enjoyed immensely . If you enjoy time slip books then this is a terrific one to add to your reading list , but it is a very enjoyable book for any fiction lover too  .

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review.

Secrets of the Mist by Kate Ryder

About the book

A gorgeous timeslip romance for fans of Kate Mosse, Diana Gabaldon and Barbara Erskine.

Maddie is restless in London. She has friends, a job and a sort-of boyfriend, but something in her life is missing. Then she visits the ancient village of Walditch, deep in the Dorset countryside. Something stirs in her, and on a whim she buys a centuries-old cottage and moves there three months later. Her friends think she's crazy, but for Maddie it feels like coming home.

Late at night in the cottage, Maddie hears strange noises and sees mist gathering indoors and out. When she starts investigating the cottage's history, she becomes drawn into the tragic story of a family who lived here 400 years ago. Meanwhile, Maddie starts to fall in love with a local carpenter – but he has a relationship already...

Can Maddie solve the riddle of the past? What is her connection with the family that lived there so many years ago? And can she and her true love ever be together?

Daddy’s Girls by Sarah Flint . Review / Blog Tour .

From the opening chapter of this book I got chills , the killer had a messed up way of playing with his victims and his small mercies were heartless and disturbing . All this from just the first chapter !

The plot kept up a strong and steady pace throughout the entire book with no dull parts whatsoever......some parts were downright eerie.

These characters are very interesting , both the good and bad ones , and their description , and the description of the places are so well written it is magnificent , you almost feel like you are there  , I got goosebumps while reading it . The description of complex police procedures during cases like this was fascinating and every little detail was really well thought out making it truly engrossing. There was red herrings thrown into the story and that just added to the enjoyment .

Truly a terrific book that I would not hesitate recommending to all you crime / thriller story lovers , it won’t disappoint! This is an author to watch out for , for future book releases.

Christmas At Pennington’s by Rachel Brimble. Review / Blog Tour

The story is set in Bath , England in 1911 and centers around two main characters , Cornelia Culford , a woman going through a desperate divorce from her no good husband and Stephen Gower , a former Scotland Yard employee but now a security man at Pennington’s. Stephen is not long at Pennington’s when he is asked to help out with something not in his job description , there is deep concern that there may be a very dangerous killer lurking in Bath ,  those he cares for could be in danger so he says yes to the request .

The story combined murder , mystery and romance wonderfully , Stephen is a knight in shining armor and not one to be messed with , I was rooting for him to get his man ! Cornelia is a formidable woman , seeing her confidence grow was delightful and I was eager to see how everything would work out in the end for her . The plot was a complete treat with plenty to keep me interested in the characters , danger , love and bad guys , all while being set somewhere completely delightful .

I recommend this to any fiction fan  .

Rachel Brimble – Christmas at Pennington’s

About the book

Gripping drama as Pennington's department store prepares for a glittering Christmas in 1911, but a killer stalks the women of Bath.

Christmas sees Pennington's at its most glorious, thronged with shoppers, its grand staircase and balcony adorned with holly, mistletoe, tinsel and lights. It should be the happiest time, but dramas are seething beneath the surface.

For Cornelia Culford, in charge of jewellery, a divorce hearing looms, where she could lose custody of her young sons to her overbearing and unfaithful husband.

For Stephen Gower, being head of security at Pennington's is the perfect refuge from a tragic past at Scotland Yard. But soon the past will call him back, as Joseph Carter and Elizabeth Pennington beg him to help solve the murder of Joseph's first wife, now that it seems as if the killer has struck again.

For Joseph and Elizabeth, their marriage depends on exorcising the past. But can it ever be laid to rest?

Magic Under The Mistletoe by Lucy Coleman . Review / Blog Tour

I am a huge fan of Christmas , so when I got the chance to get a review copy of this gorgeous looking festive book from Netgalley I jumped at the chance . I am so glad I did .

Leesa and Cary are the main characters of the story , they work together and are very successful at what they do but are not close until they find themselves thrown together in a most unexpected way over Christmas  . I loved this story , the characters past relationships were not great so it almost helps them now to see what they are looking for in their lives , especially at Christmas time when family and loved ones are near , this made it a romantic and daydream worthy read . It was interesting reading about Leesa and Cary with their respective families and the dynamic between them all especially when they were up to a little mischief with them  . I especially liked Cary’s grandmother who was a romance writer with plenty of spirit  , she had a good heart and I loved her plot parts .

I think if you like your romance story with a Christmasy backdrop that will leave you with a warm and cozy feeling then this might just tick all the boxes for you .

About the book:

Christmas and romance are in the air...

It's December 23rd and while everyone else is rushing home for the holidays, workaholic Leesa Oliver is dreading switching on her out-of-office for the festive season. And it seems her equally driven boss, Cary Anderson, isn't relishing spending Christmas at his family's country estate either.

So together, they draft an unexpected Christmas contract: They'll spend half of the holidays with each other's families, pretending to be a couple. Leesa knows the insufferably good-looking Cary will make her Christmas more bearable, but what happens after the last of the mince pies have been eaten...?

Leesa signed off on a sensible business agreement, but somewhere, amongst the fairy lights and carols something seems to have changed... It seems there might just be some magic under the mistletoe this Christmas!

The Truth by Naomi Joy. Review / Blog Tour .

This was an exceptionally dark and twisty tale about a marriage and what went on behind those closed doors , the story is told primarily from the wife’s perspective but we do get unfavorable glimpses about the husband  .

I was fascinated with the description of the bones of this marriage   , my focus was constantly being pulled in opposite directions from about mid way through the book  as I tried to figure out who was trustworthy ......who was the good guy here .

The plot became darker towards the end and there was a deep sense of foreboding , I felt it could not end well for these characters so I was glued to the page . I needed to read it as quick as I could to get ALL the answers :0) , none of which I will give you ... sorry guys ... you will have to read this awesomeness yourselves . If you like a page turner that keeps you guessing go out and get this immediately, you will adore this .Enjoy!

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for a review .

The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. Review

First let me say I loved this book from the moment I clapped eyes on the cover ... then after reading the first chapter I was hooked .

Nina is the main character of the story , she works in a bookstore by day and enjoys many bookish interests at night , bookclubs , trivia nights etc . Nina’s character is smart and quick with the bookish references so if you enjoy that you will enjoy this book as they are sprinkled throughout  . What I especially loved about Nina is that we see how anxious she is , how she copes with that anxiety and how she moves through her life with it . Nina’s life is an interesting one , unconventional and with quite a few major emotional shifts , you could see where anxiety could have developed from .

I enjoyed getting to know Nina more and more and I was sad closing the book at the end as I think it would make a great series but I throughly enjoyed every page and would recommend this to anyone who loves books about books and a heroine with gumption.

The Bad Place by M.K Hill Review

The story is based around a group of children who went through horrendous experiences in a place nicknamed “ The Bad Place “ , what happened there was truly dark and twisted and twenty years later survivors from that grim time are sadly made to feel that fear again as someone wants them to relive it. This was a gripping story , from the opening chapter the author makes sure you are instantly invested in these characters , it’s a tense read as you are never quite sure who can be trusted or if there is a rogue among friends . There is a terrific momentum with the plot and it was a pure joy to read with interesting characters and a chilling conclusion . If you love a great detective story then add this to your TBR list immediately.

I received this copy from the lovely people at Netgalley and Head Of Zeus / Aria Fiction .

The Bad Place by M.K Hill

About the book

The newspapers called it The Bad Place. A remote farm out on the Thames estuary, where six children were held captive for two weeks. Five of them got out alive.

That was twenty years ago. Now adults, they meet up annually to hold a candlelit vigil for their friend who died. The only rule is that no-one can talk about what happened the night they escaped. But at this year's event, one of them witnesses a kidnapping. A young girl, Sammi, is bundled into a van in front of their eyes.

Is history repeating itself? Is one of them responsible? Or is someone sending them a twisted message?

DI Sasha Dawson, of Essex Police, is certain that the key to finding Sammi lies in finding out the truth about The Bad Place. But she also knows that with every second she spends trying to unlock the past, the clock ticks down for the missing girl...
