Bring Me Back by B A Paris . Review

Well this was really good ! It was snowing one night and I picked this up and did not put it down until I finished it . The story is centered around a missing woman called Layla , she went missing one night after stopping at a rest stop with her partner . Fast forward years later and we see him now in a relationship with Layla’s sister . This was a deeply disturbing story for many reasons , Finn ( Layla’s partner) has a really frightening temper so throughout the story I was not convinced that he had not killed her,  then Ellen , Layla’s sister starts having things happen to her , add some cryptic messages and post and it makes for a very eerie read . If you like your books to keep you guessing then this is the book for you !

She , Myself And I by Emma Young . Review

The story takes place for the most part in a hospital in Boston . A young British woman called Rosa is there for very serious and life altering surgery. This was a terrific story with a very inspiring female lead character . Rosa is going through unique  circumstances in her life and she has incredible mental strength to sustain herself through all that , but going through unique situations also causes unique problems making this story even more facinating . . I think anyone who has had to face incredibly tough times will appreciate Rosa’s character , she is very likable and this makes it all the harder when you read what she goes through , don’t read without a box of tissues at hand. I recommend to all .

Reading This Weekend

Hi guys ! Are you getting any of the snow ? Where I am has got lots of snow recently ... it’s so cold that evenings spent wearing oversized wooly socks while tucked under a blanket with my books and pets is my idea of a happy night . I have been reading lots of lovely , truly terrific books too . Here are some that I have started on recently and those I hope to finish this next 7 days . Ahhhhh Friday nights gone wild here I tell ya !!!! ;0)

The Alice Network by Kate Quinn is a story about spies during war time . I had seen this so much lately that I can’t wait to find out some more about it for myself . I have a love for war time books centered around women and what they did at that time .

The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae. Loving this lady’s book . Blunt and to the point .

Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb has been on my TBR list since about last year , I am finally reading it and also LOVING IT! Fitz !!!! I love him . I am about 1/3 of the way through this and it’s fabulous . You don’t need to enjoy fantasy books to enjoy this .

I really enjoyed A Discovery Of Witches so I could not resist this book . I fell in love with the cover . It’s so pretty! The Silver Witch by Paula Brackston

Bird Box by Josh Malerman sounds like it’s going to be an eerie haunting read .... I must remember not to read this gem before bed......

I am 1/4 way through this gigantic tome . It’s soooo good. Two great writers together make this an awesome read with a terrific and terrifying plot . Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King

The Woman I Wanted To Be by Diane Von Furstenberg is a beautiful non fiction account of this woman’s life . I am really enjoying it and it is full of wise words and advice as well as plenty of pictures and information about her life . Every woman should read this .

Shadows by Meaghan McIsaac. Review

If you enjoy a good time travel book then you will really enjoy this story about Patrick or Pat . The story goes back and forth in time from 2083 to 2383.
The narrator of the story is Pat and his shadow is called Bo and he lives in the future . They can communicate with each other in their heads . The setting of the story is Avin , a frightening place where the government is trying to control people from being able to move around in time by shelving them .
There is some awesome world building going on here in the book , but I especially enjoyed the characters, I loved Gabby’s gumption , she was really smart and driven . I loved how how mentally strong they had to be to cope with the dialogue going on in their heads not just from their own mental dialogue but their shadows one too . Go read this immediately!

The Devil’s Dice by Roz Watkins . Review

This is the first book in a series by this author with DI Meg Dalton as the main character . The story is set in the Peak District and begins with the body of a lawyer being found in a cave as well as some grim images on the wall . Meg is a very likable and down to earth character ,a  tad skittish making her all the more fun to read about as she is in the police  .  Although the story is about a grizzly murder there is very enjoyable funny one liners along the way . I loved the relationship between Meg and DS Jai , they make a great team and their storylines together are very enjoyable . The setting of the story around the caves gave the book a lovely eerie quality and the dark history of the caves make the plot even more divine. I found this impossible to put down , so I didn’t and read it all in one go . I recommend this to all fans of Broadchurch .
