The Other You by J.S. Monroe . Review / Blog Tour

Wow this was good .... The story is about a woman called Kate who has a very special skill that enabled her to be able to recognize any face for all her life , it’s a skill that not many people have and was very useful to the police when she worked with them until she had an accident that caused damage to her brain . While recovering with her boyfriend things begin to seem off and that when the trouble begins .... I knew after a few pages in that I was not going to be able to put this book down so I didn’t and carried on reading until the early hours of the morning . The story is eerie and tense , it has lingered with me since I finished reading it as it is anybody’s worst nightmare. This story about a doppelgänger is an uneasy read in all the right ways , it’s just soooooo good , it keeps you guessing and you are never sure who you can really trust in the story . Go add this to your TBR immediately.

The Other You, J.S. Monroe

About the book

Kate used to be good at recognising people. So good, she worked for the police, identifying criminals in crowds of thousands. But six months ago, a devastating car accident led to a brain injury. Now the woman who never forgot a face can barely recognise herself in the mirror.

At least she has Rob. Young, rich, handsome and successful, Rob runs a tech company on the idyllic Cornish coast. Kate met him just after her accident, and he nursed her back to health. When she's with him, in his luxury modernist house, the nightmares of the accident fade, and she feels safe and loved.

Until, one day, she looks at Rob anew. And knows, with absolute certainty, that the man before her has been replaced by an impostor.

Is Rob who he says he is? Or is it all in Kate's damaged mind?

The Other Woman by Jane Isaac . Review / Blog Tour .

The story begins with the sudden death of a man , this man appears to be an ordinary man living an ordinary life but we quickly learn that is far from the case . Cameron is a master of deception and his entire life is made up of lies , each one of them is  worse then the last . As the story really begins with his death , we as readers don’t see what he was like while alive but we do learn about what he got up to and see how far reaching his path of destruction could go and how many it could hurt in so many ways . I really enjoyed this story , seeing the story from the perspective of the people working the case is an interesting one , they are essentially putting together this puzzle  of this man and the pieces are getting juicer by the day . The plot was very interesting because we find out gradually so much of what he did and it made this very hard to put down . I think if you love a good detective story then pick this one up without a doubt .

The Beach House by P.R. Black . Review / Blog Tour .

The story begins with a couple going on a very romantic expensive holiday to private islands where luxury and every whim can be catered for but it is soon to become even more memorable after Cora gets a very exciting proposal ....

This was a very good story , the main characters are good people and I was rooting for them , but then parts of their dream holiday start to seem a bit off and I was on the edge of my seat , as the story goes on Cora’s past seems a little more unusual then expected and these luxury islands seem more grim then glamorous as the tale gets darker and darker , the tension builds beautifully and it’s clear to see this holiday is not going to go as most do with cheery holiday pics and fond memories . Nope this tale does not end like that at all !!!! A memorable must read that if brought with you on holiday will give you the added scare factor ! ;0)

The Place We Call Home by Faith Hogan . Review .

This fictional story is set in Ireland in the countryside in Ballycove and centers around the Corrigan family who own the well known Corrigan wool mill . With a family business comes the good and bad of family life all under the watchful gaze of the matriarch Miranda who is now getting on in years and is looking for the next family member to step into her shoes . Callie , Ada , and Simon are Miranda’s children , each one is going through their own personal struggles , they are finding that their home town is calling them back again so they can get themselves back on steadier feet .

This was such a cosy and enjoyable read .

I love Faith’s world building in her books and how even though some of the characters are flawed you are still rooting for them . Miranda and Callie were my favorite characters , these are strong women who despite what happens in their life seem to thrive from what ever is thrown at them . Admirable traits. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys books similar to Sheila O’Flanagan , Cathy Kelly , Maeve Binchy .

About the book

Welcome to Ballycove, the home of Corrigan Mills...

Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Irish countryside the famed mills have created the finest wool in all of Ireland. Run by the seemingly perfect Corrigan family, but every family has its secrets, and how the mills came to be the Corrigan's is one of them...

Miranda and her husband were never meant to own the mills, until one fateful day catapults them into a life they never thought they'd lead.

Ada has forever lived her life in her sister's shadow. Wanting only to please her mother and take her place as the new leader of the mill, Ada might just have to take a look at what her heart really wants.

Callie has a flourishing international career as a top designer and a man who loves her dearly, she appears to have it all. When a secret is revealed and she's unceremoniously turfed out of the design world, Callie might just get what's she's been yearning for. The chance to go home.

Simon has always wanted more. More money, more fame, more notoriety. The problem child. Simon has made more enemies than friends over the years, and when one of his latest schemes falls foul he'll have to return to the people who always believe in him.

Ballycove isn't just a town in the Irish countryside. It isn't just the base of the famous mills. It's a place to call home.

Respect by Rachel Brian . Review

This was a really helpful and informative book looking at how to inform children about respect for themselves and others and consent for children ( how they can say no to unwanted hugs etc ) and how they can express this , all told in a fun way in comic book form primarily . I thought the cartoon figures made it more fun to read and remember and there is useful advice throughout and helpful phone numbers at the back of the book for anyone who might need some help . Would highly recommend this to anyone with young children or nieces and nephews / godchildren .

This book is being published January 9th and will be available from all good bookstores then. Below please find all the links .
