Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig. Review

This was a very touching story about a young girl called Ginny who is living with foster parents after being treated horrendously by her birth mother . Ginny has Autism and finds it hard to communicate to others when it comes to what she is thinking and worrying about  .  Seeing the world through her eyes was very special , the way she perceives others and situations and stress . She is a remarkable character and very likeable , my heart went out to her because of everything she went through , I was reading the story and my eyes were filling up because this young girl had to see too much in her young life and go through too much .

Island of Secrets by Patricia Wilson . Review

This is the epic story of one families history , told in the past during war time and flipping back and forth to present day . It is about a woman named Poppy and her daughter Angie  , the story begins when Londoner Angie starts to plan her wedding , it sets her on a quest to get answers about her mother's mysterious family back home in Crete and the circumstances surrounding their absence from their lives . This takes Angie across oceans and many decades of time in search of the truth about what really happened with her mother and family and why they have not seen each other in so long  . The story is uplifting and tearjerking  , there was many times throughout the book  when I was left with a lump in my throat . These characters are written so well that they completely envelope you and you forget they are characters in a book and not real life actual people . I loved every page of this beautiful book . This is a must read for anyone who enjoys stories about families with long buried secrets .

The Fireman by Joe Hill . Review

The story begins after a virus has began spreading its way across the world supposedly let loose by a terror organisation. There are many suspected organisations but no one knows for sure but it is causing many horrific deaths The spores passing from person to person easily makes its spread very rapid . Harper is the main character , she is a school nurse and she has been infected and soon after realises she is pregnant too. This is an epic tale of survival against the odds and one woman's determination to do what she has to do for her unborn child no matter what . This is a must read for all Joe Hill fans .

Trouble Makers by Catherine Barter . Review

Meet Alena , a fifteen year old girl living with her brother Danny and his partner Nick . Alena's mother died when she was a three and Danny has raised her since she was pretty much a baby. I felt for Alena, she did not have a conventional upbringing  with a mum and a dad and I think it did her no harm until her teenage years when she started to ask questions about how her mother died and her mother's lifestyle and choices she made , she is made even more curious about it all when her brother is adamant in not wanting to tell her anything . I loved Danny's character , not many brothers would do what he did and do it as well as he did , instilling good sense and morals into a much younger sister who is trying to find her roots and hold on to every bit of family she has . This is an awesome book for anyone who knows that being from a  "normal family " is all in how you look at it .

The Way Back Home by Allan Stratton . Review

This is the story about a young girl called Zoe who has a really strong bond with her grandmother . Zoe's granny has Alzheimer's and the worse it is getting the more Zoe is struggling to cope with the idea of her granny's future .  Under huge amounts of stress she undertakes a road trip with her granny in a bid to find her uncle who she believes will help save the day. This was such a touching story , anyone who has ever loved a grandparent will feel empathy for Zoe and the predicament she finds herself in , especially as her granny is her one true friend . My heart went out to Zoe , going through so much anguish and yet trying to make the best possible life for her sick grandmother and going above and beyond what a lot of kids would be willing to do . Zoe is an inspiring girl with a big heart and an even bigger set of values that are commendable. Loved her! Go read this immediately!

Exquisite by Sarah Stovell . Review

This was an amazing story set in England  about two women writers called Alice and Bo. Bo is a very famous published  writer and is there at the retreat to teach and Alice is a writer in the making with real talent who is hoping to gain more knowledge of the whole process . What starts off as an innocent trip to a writers retreat quickly leads to a very dark , twisted, psychological tale full of danger and manipulation . The story was deeply disturbing ( in a good way) , the more I read the more apparent the mental health problems were with one of the ladies . The extent to which they were willing to go to for their own gain was eye opening and deeply unnerving . I started this book and did not put it down until the breathtaking end . I am really hoping this book will have a sequel as this was amazing and very cleverly written . Absolutely awesome !

The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein . Review

The story is set in the 1930's in England and is mostly centred around a wealthy family's  estate . The water around the estate is ripe with pearls and there is many keen on stealing them much to the frustration of the family . When Julie , the grandchild from the estate is on her way home for the summer to visit  she is met by a terrible accident , when she wakes in hospital she remembers little of any use and has made the most unlikely allies in a traveller family . The story was full of atmosphere , and Julie was a likeable  person who stands up for those she sees being treated bad , she has gumption and can be very tongue in cheek . I really enjoyed the story and the mystery surrounding her accident , this is definitely a book to add to your TBR list!

The Grantchester Mysteries . Sidney Chambers And The Shadow Of Death by James Runcie . Review

This was such a fun story set in a small village primarily and centred around clergyman Canon Sydney Chambers . Sydney is a likeable man , young , social and always finding himself in the centre of trouble , which makes for great reading! The story feels like a lot of short stories combined to make one large story about Sydney and his friends and it  takes place in London and the countryside . There is thievery, murder, deception , and all sorts of red herrings ! This was a fantastic read and I can't wait to read more in this series ! If you enjoy a satisfying mystery series like those of M.C Beaton then this is just the book for you.

Release by Patrick Ness. Review

The story begins after a murder has happened . Adam is the main character , he is young and in love and has mixed emotions about that and a family that might not agree with his choice of love interest . We also see the story from the side of the ghost of Katherine( murdered girl)  , this might sound confusing but it works perfectly in giving us more information about what happened and the circumstances around it .
I liked Adam , his struggles with his family were heartbreaking , but I loved his gumption for admitting who he was so that he could live his life fully and truthfully even though he was taking the risk of losing those he loves most  . This is a must read for all Patrick Ness fans . This is aimed more for the slightly older reader  16+ .

After The Fire by Will Hill . Review

The story begins in a security facility after a serious incident has occurred . The main character is called Moonbeam and she appears to be at the centre of what happened but we soon learn there was a huge number of people involved because Moonbeam was part of a dangerous cult. The story was disturbing on many levels , the control over these people , the brainwashing and restrictions and flat out abuse , it was all deeply ingrained and horrifying . Father John was a despicable character and his behaviour was very unsettling so he made an excellent bad guy!
It's quite a big book and I flew through it, the plot was exceptionally good and I could not put it down once I started it and as the plot pace really picked up speed as we went I had to stay up late to find out what had happened leading up to the climax of the story. It was awesome ! If you are a fan of this author you won't be disappointed if you are new to his writing  you are in for a treat!

Encounters by Jason Wallace. Review.

The story is set in 1994 in Zimbabwe where a huge group of children tell the same story about a space ship arriving outside their school at break-time  . The story is told through the eyes of some of these children and the more you read the more you are convinced these children were telling the truth and it seemed to be a very bad omen. The characters are interesting and the plot was original , do we only believe what our eyes see,  or do we only believe what we know is possible . The story is thought provoking and a must read for all fans of UFO'S and unusual things happening to ordinary people .

Peculiar Ground by Lucy Hughes-Hallett. Review

The story is centred around the grand Wychwood estate in the 1600's in England .
The house has a lot of staff and visitors and throughout the story you get glimpses of a lot of them . The story flicks back and forth in time and the different people who lived in the house and the magical and tragic events that happened there . This is a very mysterious house and every generation who lived there since its construction seemed to have had their own troubles and ghosts . An enchanting and haunting story for all fans of big old houses .

The Ice by Laline Paull . Review

The main plot of the story is set in the Arctic after the Arctic sea ice has melted. It has caused big business and not all of it is legal . Tom and Sean are two men in a crew who go to the Arctic to explore , friends and comrades , you need to really trust who you bring with you on this type of adventure . When tragedy occurs many questions are asked and they linger throughout the years leaving a sense of unease that will all have to finally be answered no matter how terrible the answers . The story was awesome , we see it primarily from Sean's perspective and it's not all black and white . The story does not give up its secrets straight away so there was a nice build up of tension leading to the end of the book . This is a book to read in one gulp! Awesome!

A Berlin Love Song by Sarah Matthias. Review

The story is told by Max and Lili at the beginning of the Second World War . Max is a German school boy and Lili is from a Romani Gypsy family , these two falling for each other would not be approved by anyone so they keep it secret . The story is beautiful and heartbreaking . Tragedy and hope linger throughout the story of this couples lives , each driven in opposite directions to an unknown future . This book had everything I wanted , very strong characters , hope , history , tragedy and love set in a troubled time .

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner. Review

This was a really emotional read . You have a teenage boy who loses his three best friends and he is blaming himself for what happened even though he was not there . The trouble is others are starting to blame him too leading to all sorts of stress and anxiety. There was so many times I tried to put myself in Carver's shoes , imagining what could happen or how I would react . The story has stayed with me since I read it which should tell you how memorable the plot was . Carver is a lovely kid , his heart is in the right place but one tiny moment in his life could wreck the rest of his life forever . This is one of those stories where something you do in a  split second can change your life and it really gets you thinking about the hooded you make and the people closest to you . Add this to your TBR pile immediately! You won't regret it!
