River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh. Review
This is the second book in the Ibis Trilogy . In this book we see some but not all of the characters from the first book returning and the trade of Opium and it's export beginning to cause a stir .
The book is told through several characters eyes and you get a good feel for the times these characters were in in the 1800's , the use of Opium was common and it's value was immense making it iristible for exporting where a very large profit was to be made . Before the opium wars opium was a great business but that was all to change when it was decided that there would be no more exporting this valuable commodity out of the country . As this was a business and many foreigners depended on it as their livelihood this was to become a very large problem ! I recommend this to anyone interested in history and this specific part of the world , richly described and intoxicatingly good!

Day Four by Sarah Lotz . Review.

A luxury cruise sounds like the perfect dreamy getaway but when there is more then one dubious character on board the ship it means that trouble is not going to be far behind those on board.
Stressed overworked staff, a psychic with a bad reputation , a murderer , a doctor with a past and two suicidal elderly women are just some of the passengers on board this ship that has a couple of thousand people on board all headed for stormy waters.
When things start to go wrong on board with a death of a young woman other bad things happen and the situation quickly escalates , passengers and staff become stressed and when stressed some of the passengers become even less likeable then they were beforehand. They become stranded on this vessel in the middle of nowhere with no way of contact with the outside world and then there is an illness on board that threatens to be passed on to everyone.
This was a scary book to read as most of this could easily happen making it even more terrifying!
I recommend this for fans of books about strange things happening at sea. Loved it!

Mindwalker by A.J Steiger . Review.

This is the story about a seventeen year old girl called Lain, her father is dead . Lain goes to school at Greenborough High School. When she is not being a student she is a Mindwalker . A Mindwalker is someone who is asked to basically go for a walk around your head removing bad memories you have so that you can get on with your life as a happier person while forgetting permanently terrible incidents that may have happened that are traumatising the person involved. In this dystopian world the government created this way of segregating people into 5 different types. Type 1 is the best, the smartest , the people allowed the best jobs and allowed the most clearance . In a world where what's going in your head matters to which number you are given , an example would be someone with severe mental problems would not be given a job with a gun and they would be in section 5 in the community, where jobs and their life would be just about bearable. People in section 1 have much better lives in every way. Lain's life centered around her work and school until the day she meets Stephen then all she believed in and trusted starts to crack then shatters.
