Book Haul

I got some bargains recently and another beautiful Persephone book . I am waiting on others but for now I thought I would show you these goodies .

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, I saw the trailer for the show and it looks amazing . I hope it will come out in dvd .

This cover is stunning .

The next book I am really excited to show you is The Meg by Steve Alten , the book has been made into a film that is being released here this week featuring Jason Statham as the main character . I am very fond of shark stories so this one immediately peeked my interest . I am already about half way through this and it’s SO good! This is a must read for any fans of Jaws .

Happy by Fearne Cotton is a beauty of a book , inside and out . I had read this before from the library but I was thrilled to get my very own copy for a bargain when shopping . Fearne has a great way of talking about mental health and wellbeing and if this is something that interests you then check out her books and journal .

Greengates by R C Sherriff arrived looking elegant , as all Persephone books do .... they are a complete joy to find in my mailbox. I can’t wait to read this , I really enjoyed A Fortnight In September by the same author .

Reading This Weekend

As you may know if you have been following my blog for a while,  I am a ferocious reader , I make no apologies for this , it’s my thing .... I will usually be found outside with books in the summertime catching some vitamin d and and going on some adventure inside the covers of a book. It’s a happy place , make no mistake .
My love/ need  of reading normally escalates in the colder months when the lower temperatures have me scurrying towards the bookshelves and thermal sock drawer but I don’t have to worry about those icy temperatures for now as we are having a glorious sunny summer for the most part and I am using every opportunity to read outdoors while I still have the chance . There is just something about sitting in the shade with a little breeze in the air and a terrific book to read ...... sigh ....... if only this feeling could  be bottled .......
Anyway guys ... these are the books I am currently reading this weekend ... I hope to review them this week so if either have been on your radar  keep an eye out for a review blog post this week .

The Wisdom Of Sally Red Shoes by Ruth Hogan

Greenery Street by Denise Mackail

A Fortnight In September by R C Sherriff. Review

This is the delightful tale of one family and their annual trip to the seaside . The family consists of the parents and two sons and a daughter , the mother is a housewife , a nervous woman who wants to see her family happy no matter the cost to herself , two of the children are almost grown up and looking for independence and then there is the younger brother too . This is not a book of high adventure , what makes this book so moreish is the  little details of this family’s life , from their own thoughts to their daily rigmarole, it makes remarkably addictive reading and although like  I said  there is not much that happens you do genuinely care for each of the characters and want to know more about them . The author is exceptional at showing you the characters , flaws and all , in a special way , tiny details showing us a lot more about them overall then we first think . The plot is a simple one and the pace is gentle so it makes for a lovely Sunday afternoon read , but it will stay with you long after you finish the last page . Beautiful .
