Yule Log Murder by Leslie Meier . Review

The book is set in Tinkers Cove , Maine and the main character of the story is Lucy Stone . Lucy works on the Pennysaver Newspaper in town and work is going to be a lot busier now that it looks like a film is being shot in this small town . Not everyone is pleased that director Ross Rocket is making a film here and it’s not long before trouble arises.  This story had lots of twists and turns and I loved that ! When there is trouble in town Lucy is never too far away and she is just the person you want to be asking all the right questions . I love this new addition to this series and especially the wonderful recipes included . Now hopefully it won’t be long until we get to come back to this series again. I can’t wait !

I received this book for review from Netgalley in exchange for a review .

Deadly News by Jody Hanford review .

This is first in a new series set in Britton Bay. Molly Owens is the main character and editor of “The Bulletin “ newspaper .

Mollly has joined the paper recently with the intention of shaking it up and bringing it into the modern world much to the dislike of old curmudgeon Vernon , a member of staff with a chip on his shoulder and a penchant for grumbling.

When a member of staff shows up dead soon after being sent out on a story,  a lot more work is required to not only get their work done but find a killer too. The setting was fabulous , this is the type of town I would move to in a heartbeat , quaint , with colorful residents and  their interesting backgrounds and lots of gorgeous businesses and scenic with it .

I read this in one go and loved every minute of it , I can’t wait to read more books in the series !

The Lady In The Cellar by Sinclair McKay. Review .

The story is set in 1879 at the address of no 4 ,Euston Square , Bloomsbury , London . The home is owned by Severin and Mary Bastendorff , a German family who renting part of their home out . They have one maid , a Hannah Dobbs . What starts of as a story about the residents of a house soon takes a darker turn when a body is found in the coal cellar.

I found this story completely intriguing , the time the story is set in and the secrets and lies of the residents makes it very hard to guess what’s going to happen next . I read this entirely in one sitting as I was eager to know who the deceased person was and why on earth they were found dead there . The story has plenty of twists and turns and makes for an eerie read made even more interesting is the the new CID police procedures for crime scenes and deaths at that time . Gripping and a must read for all fans of this time in history . Very atmospheric!

Purls And Poison by Anne Canadeo . Review.

This is book 10 in the “ Black Sheep Knitting Mystery”  Series . I love this series, I have read five of the books up to this point and I was very excited that I got to review this one.  The story features a group of friends who meet weekly at Maggie’s Yarn shop to eat , talk and knit while putting the world to right . In book 10 we see Suzanne ( a real estate broker ) having trouble at work with one of her colleagues who is trying to steal her clients . It all reaches a pivotal point and then all hell brakes loose .

I have to say I love this series and my favorite thing about it is the talk about all the yarn and knitting ( let’s be real ) and the friendship between this close knit ( see what I did there ) group of friends.  This little group are amazing strong women , smart , and full of gumption ... who would not want to be friends with these ladies . Suzanne needs her friends most in this latest mystery and it’s incredible enjoyable following them along for the ride . I loved every single page .

I received this book from Netgalley and Kensington books in exchange for a review .

Thread Herrings by Lea Wait . Review

This is book 7 in “A Mainely Needlepoint Mystery” series and I loved it .
Set in Maine , the story centers around main character Angie , a gutsy female who loves a mystery .
When Angie accompanies her friend Sarah , an antiques shop owner , to a large auction she gets more then she bargained for when she decides to buy a beautiful embroidered coat of arms that is more then a little rough around the edges .
Once she gets it home she finds out it has an intriguing history that she needs her friends help in solving , unfortunately that help comes with deadly consequences.
If you love a story with a fantastic back story , a creepy stalker and plenty of danger lurking around every few pages then this is the book for you. This kept me on my toes , I like how Lea Kept the tension building and how I could not guess who was the “baddie” . I will definitely be reading more from this series .
Another extra goodie in this book was the delightful little snippets of people’s stories of needlework. I think it really added to the story and how special handcrafts can be .

I kindly received this book from Netgalley For review. This book is being published by Kensington Publishing on Oct 30th and will be available where all good books are sold .

Reading This Week

Hello my friends , I have not been on here in ages and I have to say I have missed it .

My weekly chats and catch ups have been gone for too long and it’s about time that was rectified. So I thought I would start my September posts very late with what I am reading this week .

If you have been following my posts for a while you may know that I have read Persuasion by Jane Austen before , it was not until recently when I saw the film featuring Sally Hawkins as Anne Elliott that renewed my love in these characters and I do so love Sally’s portrayal of Anne , she IS Anne in my imagination , that moment when Captain Wentworth helps her into the carriage and takes her hand is the sweetest moment ..... sigh ........ just beautiful .

Anyway let’s get on with what else I am reading

Miss Boston and Miss Hargreaves by Rachel Malik

Happy By Design by Victoria Harrison

Persuasion by Jane Austen

The Mayan Prophecy by Steve Alten
