Book Haul February 2014

The Haunted Hotel by Wilkie Collins. Review.

I was not sure I was going to like this book as I had never read any Wilkie Collins before but I picked it up anyway and gave it a go as I loved the title.
It took me until I was about a quarter of the way through the book before I started to get into it. There is high drama as well as suspicious goings on. It really is hard to know who to trust in the story and so it is a guessing game from the beginning.
 The main characters of the story are:
Countess Narona .... I never warmer to her as a character, her motives always seemed suspect.
Agnes Lockwood...The wronged woman.... always seemed a little too perfect and composed.
Mr and Mrs Ferrari.. Intriguing....
Lord Mountbarry..... weak and hiding many things.
Countess Narona's brother... ohhhh he comes off as  a very dodgy character.....
When I did finally get into the book I enjoyed it but I did not love it. The plot has twists and turns a plenty and I was not putting this book down until I found out what was going on. The story was worth reading and I loved the cover.

Hi guys, still feeling under the weather but as I got a few books today I thought I would share them with you.

Below please find Gone and Done It by Maggie Toussaint. This is going to be released in May and it is a Dreamwalker Mystery. I love this cover so much! I received this book from the author..

The next book I received was this ARC from lovereading.co.uk and the book is called The Enchantment by Rene Denfeld.A redemptive story told from the point of view of a monstrous human being in prison.

Carry You by Beth Thomas is a book I received from Avon Books.An inspirational story told about a character called Daisy who lost someone close to her and who now is  slowly finding her way back into the world again. I really love the sound of this book. I think it is going to be a real touching feel good read.

Sick As A Small Hospital.

Hi guys, I won't be posting blog posts or videos until the beginning of next week at the earliest as I am feeling really under the weather right now ,it is taking all my energy just to type these few words. Lola And The Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Review.

This book was awesome!!! Incredibly sweet and touching and full of  "The Feels".
Lola is a cool chick, flawed but likeable ,and she makes a great main character.
Between school and her passion for fashion you would think she would have her hands full but no ,she has two guys in her life too ,Cricket and Max ,and both are very different but totally great and both looking for her attention. Add some dysfunctional families and mixed emotions and you have one very moreish read.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Review.

The setting for the story is present day Bodleian Library, Oxford, Cambridge. The main characters of the story are Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont . Diana comes from a long line of witches but has never been interested in using any of the skills she may have. Matthew is a vampire geneticist who is incredibly handsome and interesting and possibly dangerous . When Diana one day comes across a very important manuscript it opens up a magical world that she had no idea was around her.The story takes us many places, across many lands and we get to meet those closest to Diana and Matthew as they are both going to need all the help they can get from their families as their relationship is frowned upon and feared. I love the way Deborah writes, even though the book is over 600 pages long the writing is so good that you don't feel the pages fly by. I love how so much of the beginning of the book is set in the library and how I can picture it so clearly thanks to Deborah's description of it.
This book really did feel like a journey and I don't think I will be satisfied until I have all three books read. It is very moreish and hard to put down. Diana and her family were probably my favourite characters in the book , not forgetting Matthew! Ahhhh Matthew.... I loved how protective, caring and old fashioned gentleman he was..... despite  a fondness for drinking blood. ....Well no guy is perfect!
This is book one in this trilogy and I already have book 2 so I can start it as soon as possible but this is definitely  a series to get excited about. Go get this!

Frost Hollow Hall by Emma Carroll.Review.

I loved this book so much !,The cover is just so gorgeous and sparkly! If you are a fan of Downton Abbey or The Woman In Black then you may enjoy this book a lot !The setting is winter 1881 , Frost Hollow Hall . The main character in the story is Matilda ,or Tilly to her friends , she is a young girl who is reluctantly friends with Will Potter, a young lad who works for the local butchers.

The story begins when Tilly has an almost fatal accident when out playing on the lake at Frost Hollow Hall with Will. This place has a sad past and Tilly becomes more interested in the story about it and the young boy who previously drowned in the lake after she has her own near death experience.
Tilly is a great female character, she is brave and gutsy , loyal and kind ,and just nosy enough to create plenty of adventures. I really enjoyed how her character developed thoughout the story.
 I thought the plot was brilliant . The story grabbed me from the first chapter and I loved getting to know the other characters and the hall itself. The story has mystery , intrigue, chills and a good dose or eeriness. I read this on a stormy night and it was the perfect reading material. I would definitely recommend this book.
