The Coffee Shop Book Club. Review.

The Coffee Shop Book Club is a collection of short stories by well known writers such as Cathy Kelly, JoJo Moyes , Ian Rankin , to name but a few who have got together to raise money for Breast Cancer Care in Association with Woman and Home magazine.

This short story collection really does have something to suit ever readers taste. There is mystery, heart warmers, humorous , thought provoking, slightly sinister, surprising and romantic tales all written  extremely well and  they make great reads for when you are short on time, so great to dip into when you don't have the time for a big book. I don't read that many short stories but this book was really fun and it has made me want to look into finding more books like it. It would be great to see more books like this in the future that combine great story telling with helping a great cause.

Reading This Week.

 

 

A Weekend With Mr Darcy by Victoria Connelly. Review.

Ok.. I am warning you from the beginning there is going to be lots and lots of gushing.... You have been warned.

Ahhhhhh I loved this...sigh.... First lets begin with the cover.. I mean HELLOOOO gorgeous!!

The story begins in the run up to a weekend where Janeites ( Jane Austen Fans) meet up to talk all things Austen. I mean that alone has my interest before I knew anything else about the story. College lecturer Katherine is going to be going there to give a talk and Robyn our other female lead character is going there as a treat to herself ,being a huge Austen fan.
Neither woman is having a great personal life, it's either non existent or soooo bad it's tedious so this weekend of talking romance about some of the best male literary characters is going to have many people's heart racing as well as being just what these too female characters need in their lives.
The characters in this story are truly wonderful and it is incredibly hard to leave them  so even though the book  has well over 300 pages I read it very quickly. Throughout the story there are quotes that most Austen fans will be familiar with as well as mention of the places of where Jane Austen came from and characters from all of her books. This book was written so well I have no fear recommending it to any and all fans of Austen as a truly indulgent read . This is not a book to be read just once, it is one to cherish and gobble up when feeling down in the dumps for a guaranteed pick me up.

Murder Of A Sweet Old lady by Denise Swanson. Review.

Murder Of A Sweet Old Lady is book 2 in the Scumble River Mystery Series By Denise Swanson. I recently read the first book in the series and really enjoyed that so I had to pick up the next book straight away. This book surprised me. Why? Well it normally takes a little while before I warm to characters and the plot but by page 12 there I was sitting down holding back the tears from dropping into my cup of tea as I hoped beyond hope that what I thought had happened had not.
Awww Denise you really know how to grab the readers attention right from the beginning , when an author does this well it is a joy to behold.
 Skye is the school psychologist and  the main character of the story/series and she is a feisty , hard working, well meaning person. I don't mean a do-gooder. She really is a nice character.
 When Skye's personal and professional life take drastic turns for the worst and begin sliding downhill faster then a bicycle without brakes rather then sit down sobbing eating a  small lorry full of chocolate she does what any sensible sleuth does..she snoops!
The plot was genius. Having her personal and work life  running side by side it gives you plenty of plot to get your teeth into making it very hard to put down . I could not have predicted how the story would end but it was excellent and this has only wetted my appetite for book 3......now where did I leave it............

 The Unraveling of Violeta Bell by C  R Corwin is a Morgue Mama Mystery series. This is book 3 in this series , it is  awesome and I love it!

 Morgue Mama by C R Corwin is book 1 in the Morgue Mama Mystery series.

 A Brew to a kill is book    in the Coffee House mystery series by Cleo Coyle. I can't praise this series enough so if you are looking out for a cozy mystery series to get you though the winter then this might be just what you are looking for.

 Royal Blood is book 3 in the Royal Spyness Mystery series by Rhys Bowen. I love Rhys's style of writing and this series is great fun as. These characters are wonderful.

Sense and Sensibility by Joanna Trollope. Review.

I love a re-telling.. When I knew I was getting this gorgeous book, a Jane Austen re-telling, I was very excited!! It has been a while since I read Sense and Sensibility so before starting this I went back and read Miss Austen's version so I could remind myself of the story.
This book was such fun reading about the characters that I know so well brought  into the modern day world where I thought the characters were really well portrayed in present day and the essence of the book was not too altered. Joanna did a wonderful job of this retelling and I had a smile on my face many times during the  reading of it seeing these characters put into modern day situations . My favourite characters were still as lovable and the likes of Fanny were still as horrid I am glad to say and the story was very engaging and hard to put down. This is a must read for any Jane Austen fan who enjoys a re-telling. I am definitely a fan! Well done Joanne!

Murder Of A Stacked Librarian by Denise Swanson

A very exciting book is being released tomorrow by Denise Swanson . This is book 16 in the Scumble River Mystery Series featuring the fabulous Skye Denison ,School Psychologist. If you are looking for a great cozy mystery series you might want to check this series out. Find a link below to the author's website where the entire list of her previous books is available. I love the covers of this series. The setting for this book is Christmas in Scumble River where the lead character is getting married....sigh... I have a feeling this is going to be awesome...A Christmas wedding.....sigh....
