Book Haul No 1 January (2013)

My First haul of the year....those words are delicious!!The books,even more so!!

I had read Caitlin's previous bestseller How To Be A Woman and spent so much time laughing that there was no way I was not going to get this book. By the way if you have not read her previous book I highly recommend it.

James Herbert is a wonderful writer of creepy,chill you to the bone books that are perfect for keeping you up  at night and ensuring that you never sleep with the light out again!! 

This is actually a journal I got but I am including it anyway.I love these covers!

How creepy and fab is this cover!!!! This looks like it's going to be a great story..Bring on the creepfest!!!

I have this book on my kindle but I wanted the paperback copy .I really enjoyed this story.If you like books about books with a little bit of romance and Christmas spirit thrown in then you might enjoy this. 

The spooks apprentice series is wonderful and this is the latest in that series, a lot of the main characters are not in this story but other characters are mentioned. I don't see this series mentioned a lot but it really should be as it is wonderful. I started reading this after the Harry Potter series finished as I needed an adventure series I could really get into with wonderful characters and this is what I found. I have read all of the books so far and it is fantastic. The series is coming to an end soon  but there are 11 books ,and three additional stories(if you include this one).Plenty to keep a young person or YA fan entertained.

I got to say the first thing that drew me to this book was the cover ,vintage and beautiful. I am really looking forward to finding out more about this.

Skulduggery is quite the character! This is another fun series with plenty of action and adventure for Skulduggery and his good friend Valkyrie

The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan

I was picked  to review this and I was thrilled! I had seen this in bookstores and I read the info on the back and loved the plot so when I got to review it-Yay!!(add lots of jumping up and down)
This was a very thought provoking book . From the very first page you are gripped by the story and it does not let you go until the last page and even then it leaves you with plenty to think about. These people on the lifeboat are thrown together ,having little in common, and trying to survive what is happening to them until they can be rescued,. In a confined space even the most basic human necessities are not available and they try and maintain their sense of modesty and manners but as time goes on these are stretched to the limits and something has to give.I spent a lot of time thinking about what would I do in the same instant and the choices people make when put into a position where it is their life or another person's, the basic need to survive takes over no matter what , and that is what we see in this story.The story is told through the eyes of Grace a young woman who's husband got her a place on the boat .They are separated and so we don't know if they will find each other again.Tension builds steadily and it is very hard to leave this book once you begin , the people on the boat are fascinating and the dynamics there are interesting to read . Leaders quickly push themselves forward leading the group of weary travellers, but in these circumstances nothing is certain and people become pushed to their limits of patience for their need to live. No one can be certain of their survival.

The Diary of A Provincial Lady by E . M Delefield

                                                       The Diary of A Provincial Lady

I knew nothing about this book before I began, so when I finally did read it it was a wonderful surprise!This book was very comical ! This is a diary of a woman trying to run a home and keep her husband and family happy while being at the mercy of her own much feared cook.
In this lady's life there is never enough money to go around, and so ways to cut costs while maintaining a certain way of life is a full time job.
I was chuckling away to myself reading this as our main character has the funniest sarcastic thoughts to herself while maintaining prefect outer calm and dignity .The book was a lot of fun to read and I will def be re-reading this one!
The book is published by Virago and the cover is designed by Cath Kidston. It is beautiful and has a foreword by Jilly Cooper. I highly recommend!

Delirium by Lauren Oliver Review

What if love was a disease? What if we never had to feel the pain of love ever again? This is the case in this book by Lauren Oliver. In a world where love is feared  the only solution is a procedure to remove love from us !
How easy would life be if love was removed from us? No more heartache and pain ! No more falling for the wrong people. Instead being given someone who matches us perfectly. Is this the ideal situation or control by those in power brought to a whole other level.
The book really gets you thinking about in some ways how convenient this world could be without love . Love is wonderful but I bet most of us can understand the pain it can sometimes cause   and the way that then effects other aspects of our lives. This author manages to capture perfectly this world and show us what it is like.
This was an awesome book. I started it planning to only read a few pages as I have way to many books on the go right now.....I could not put this book down.I was gripped from the very beginning . The story has a steady pace that does not ease up at any time and the main characters are fantastic and you really want them to follow their hearts.This dystopian world was both frightening and fascinating. I cannot wait to get the next book in this series. I loved this!!

Old Books Rare Friends by Leona Rostenberg and Madeleine Stern

                                                          Old Books Rare Friends

This is the story of two friends Leona and Madeleine . The story takes us from their childhood and collage years right through to their travels and work years. The book has a lot of wonderful pictures included and it is clear to see these ladies had quite a life.
It was not obvious from the beginning that they were going to be friends but that is what they became nonetheless and it is just wonderful for us that they did. Their lives have been filled with books ,searching for them ,selling them and loving a mystery about them and their authors.
The ladies traveled a lot and they take us with them on their journeys, it is fun reading about where they visited ,through their eyes esp when on one particular visit to London when they went to stay at a particular establishment they very nearly got more then they bargained for.
If you love a book about books then I urge you to read this . A book about friendship and books is a book to treasure !
